Shoemakers Wassail, Wassail, Wassail

January 17, 2027 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
A traditional Somerset wassail.
The annual celebration of the apple returns. A traditional Somerset celebration in the walled orchard at Shoemakers Museum in Street. With music, storytelling, and a competition for the finest headdress!!
The Langport Mummers will be there with music and dance, and the legendary Les Davies (Westcountry Man, CBE) will be master of ceremonies as the oldest tree in the orchard is blessed and, it’s said, encourages a good crop!
New this year is Morris Dancing with Savage Sisters, with a chance to join in and give it a try! Plus a storytelling marquee for winter tales.
This year get your headdresses ready. Come in winter finery and wear a fancy apple-themed headdress to enter the competition! Adult and children’s prizes this year. If you need to prepare yours, there will be a drop-in making session in the museum education space.
Refreshments will be available, including apple juice and cider to keep warm. This is an outside event, so please dress appropriately in warm clothing and outdoor footwear – and remember to wear a fancy apple-themed headdress if you wish to enter the competition!
Entry is free with your Annual museum pass. If you don’t already have one – avoid the queues and save a little money by buying yours in advance online through the Shoemakers Museum website.
Online: Adults £10, Students £5, Children under 8 free of charge. shoemakersmuseum.org.uk/event/wassail-2027
